Exercise 4, Kevin Eib

Greer Lankton continued down the hallway with purpose, direction, past the shaping implements stored in rows of chests, continued walking in quick short strides past clear plastic bins filled with beads and glass eyes gazing back, past fabric scraps stacked by the crateful where any other day she might rummage for the precise tint or texture in a material, seeking the perfect combination to breathe her latest creation to life--but today her resolution continued to carry her with heavy footfalls past reams of tulle and chicken wire lined along the walls of the Creature Shop where she would resume her work on the larger than life bird, an undertaking having matured to its final, definitive shape in an outer layer of golden feathers that Greer stitched swiftly yet meticulously with one long swooping dig followed by two shorter, quicker stabs using the utmost of care, the precision of an assured artisan whose nimble hands wove the magic of the creator with every nuance in her movement. Greer could only imagine this same artistry, precision to detail, belief that miracles occur in the creation process, would embody the hands of her surgeon and breathe to life the complete woman she would become with her newly made sex.
